Peter Fiasca

Peter’s devotion to Pilates began in 1988, when he took his first class at Wee-Tai Hom’s studio in New York City.

As his passion grew, Peter pursued teacher training at Drago’s Gym, receiving certification in 1998 from the legendary master teacher Romana Kryzanowska. Over time, Peter honed his knowledge and teaching with regular lessons from Romana, as well as from master teachers Jay Grimes, Kathy Grant, and other distinguished, traditional instructors. Producer and director of the award-winning Classical Pilates Technique series of six DVDs (2002-2006) and author of the critically reviewed companion book, Discovering Pure Classical Pilates (2008), he has been a frequent guest instructor at training centers throughout the U.S., Europe and South America.

Exercise Variations for Men in the CADILLAC.

This workshop will focus upon traditional exercises and principles that specifically benefit men.
(1) address common muscle tightness in men and learn exercises that stretch-lengthen these areas;
(2) identify certain muscle groups that men typically over work
(3) develop and deeper understanding of how and where to correctly initiate movement for men;
(4) challenge balance and stabilization while incorporating men’s frequently utilized muscle groups;
(5) practice increasing range-of-motion restrictions for most men to increase flexibility;
(6) review advanced exercises that Joe Pilates specifically provided to men for developing their unique strengths and abilities.

LECTURE: Static and dynamic balance: center of gravity in the practice of Pilates.

Definitions of center of gravity, static & dynamic bases of support, line of gravity, weight change anticipation as well as stable and unstable balance. Benefits to participants:
(1) increase awareness of how the body’s center of gravity can help improve traditional technique;
(2) identify ways in which static and dynamic bases of support contribute to achieving and sustaining balance;
(3) examine lines of gravity as related to coordination and dynamic balance; and
(4) how these concepts can lead to getting a better workout.

LECTURE: Innovation and Pilates: Keys to Mind-Body Understanding.

Explores dynamic interactions between physical exercise, cognition and central nervous system functioning.

The first exercises of the Authentic CADILLAC – Bednasium.

Workshop participants will practice a wide selection of exciting Cadillac exercises—basic, intermediate, advanced, super advanced and archival—that emphasize vigorous, athletic sports dynamics, strong energy and precise coordination. This workshop will help improve theoretical understanding as well as physical mastery of placement, range of motion, balance, shape, articulation and flowing movement. Technique and teaching skills will demonstrated and discussed.

The flow of exercise transitions in the REFORMER.

This workshop will demonstrate how to increase movement efficiency and improve proper muscular action between exercises. By emphasizing the continuous nature of movement, participants will achieve intelligent optimum flow, as distinguished from shallow speed. An additional goal during this strenuous yet wonderfully complex workout is to enhance mental focus.
