08:45 - 10:45Rhythm and Fluency in REFORMER

The pace and fluency for each exercise in the classic sequence are the main strengths in authentic Pilates instruction. In the order of Reformer exercises, the transitions from one movement to another create a continuous flow and allow your clients’ classes to be efficient and effective. If you make too many corrections during class, this will “break” the fluidity of the movement. Instead, learn to correct while the body is in motion, coordinating the mind with the body, hence the “Art of Contrology”! In this workshop, we will analyze the pace and fluidity in the Advanced and Super Advanced Reformer. This is an excellent opportunity to practice some super advanced exercises, challenge your practice as well as your advanced level students.

In this course, we will look closely at the original 1934 Mat exercises created by Joseph Pilates, as detailed in the 1945 book “Return to Life Through Contrology.” As we study the original versions of Joe, we will deepen the knowledge about his original intention of each exercise of Mathematical Contrology. Through this study, we will also understand that, depending on the body condition, why it may be necessary to modify the original exercises – keeping Joe’s original intention. The current approach to Mat exercises can be compared to the original exercises. See how, through careful attention to detail, how Contrology changes bodies. While some of the exercises will be familiar, others will be considered challenging.

14:30 - 16:30Pre-Pilates: Body Builders

Joseph was always ahead of his time and, thinking about the longevity of life with quality, left a series of exercises that he called “exercises for home” and which Romana Kryzanowska affectionately named Pre-Pilates. The exercises are suitable for any age group and work as a preparation for better performance of Pilates exercises, avoiding injuries and improving body function, not to mention that they are an important tool to stimulate the elderly and people recovering from injuries. With small daily tasks it is possible to improve the flexibility and tone, which are fundamental factors to perform everyday activities such as sitting, walking, lifting and the like, achieving physical and mental longevity, achieving health and well being.

Therefore, understanding the teaching technique is essential to have a natural and pleasurable experience in the reformer. 16:00 - 18:00Different ways of looking and positioning the student during class

If you are a Pilates instructor and teach your clients that they have different body types, you may have more difficulty with some types of bodies to hold them in position and add movement, which is the action for the actual work. This can be caused by bone structure, lesions, past movement habits, range of motion, etc. As an instructor you need to have good eyes. If you understand the body type, you can modify or adjust some positioning. In this lecture, I like to show some pictures of the placement of the exercises that we use frequently. So you can teach how the body can be in the right place for the exercises.
